Avoid These Seed Oils Mentioned In Recent News and Social Media

Our subscribers understand the nuances of food science, but there are many who have been misled by recent news. Some believe all seed oils are identical!
Since our inception, we’ve highlighted the issues with store-bought oils (and when hidden as ingredients in processed foods). They’re vastly different from the seed oils produced in ancient times, or the type we press.
The Five Problems With Commercial Seed Oils …and why they truly are bad for you
#1. Made With High Heat
Soybean, canola, grapeseed, peanut, and corn oils are often refined as “vegetable oil” using high amounts of heat. The temperatures used destroy long-chain fatty acids and remove protective antioxidants.
When heated again (like in a frying pan) they break down into more harmful by-products such as trans fats or polar compounds that are linked to various diseases.
#2. Solvent Extraction
If you research how industrial sunflower oil is produced, you’ll learn about hexane. This chemical solvent is used to extract oil from finely ground seed meal.
Hexane is known to the State of California to cause birth defects and is a neurotoxin. Although the food industry claims only trace amounts remain in the oil, any amount is too much.
#3. Rancidity
Cooking oils sold in North America are often sold in clear plastic containers. Not only is the plastic unhealthy, but so is the exposure to sunlight. Research shows that constant UV light (even indoors) affects the quality and oxidative stability of the oil.
That’s why all of our oils are stored in protective dark tinted Miron™ glass.
#4. Oil Smoke Point
They won’t tell you this, but some oils shouldn’t ever be used for cooking. Each seed oil burns at different temperatures. When they burn, they release extremely unhealthy toxins.
Yet oils with a lower smoke point are often included in processed foods and heated anyway.
#5. Non-Organic Seeds
Do you always buy Certified Organic? Most of us don’t, because it’s expensive. However, it’s one way to ensure you’re not consuming pesticides like Glyphosate, which is known to cause health issues.
You already know this, but it matters how food is grown. Many seeds today are produced in China with growth hormones, weed killers, and plant steroids. They’re sometimes even grown in contaminated soils near power lines, polluted water, or major highways.
What Makes Our Seed Oils Incredibly Healthy?
No Grinding
We don’t turn our seed into a fine meal. Yes, that means there is a tiny amount of oil lost that could be extracted with chemicals, but we’d rather have a healthy product.
No Heating
Heat damages the phytonutrients, enzymes, minerals, and other compounds. When these break down they can release free radicals, leading to inflammation.
No Chemicals
When industrial chemicals are used in the extraction process, they end up in the oil. You can’t use them without consuming some, and that’s unacceptable.
Organic Seed
We’re proud to say that the seeds in our oils are grown in healthy soil, without the use of weed killers and hormones. Certified organic farms can’t become certified if they’re next to an uncertified farm that sprays their crops.
Dark Bottles
The effort to produce fresh oil should never be wasted. That’s why we bottle ours in dark glass bottles to protect it until it reaches your table.
Not All Seed Oils Are Created Equal
How the seed was grown, pressed, and bottled makes a difference. You should also avoid heating organic seed oils as much as possible.
You can easily drizzle them over cooked chicken, include them in a smoothie or salad, or consume them directly.
Most of the canola, sesame, corn, and other ‘vegetable oils’ produced today should be avoided. They’re truly unhealthy in large quantities.
